What's involved

So you know exactly what Kevin will be doing in your home, and in what order.

  1. Home visit and written quote

Kevin walks the rooms with you, measures up, checks the condition of the plaster and woodwork, and talks through colours, sheen levels and the order of work. You get a clear written quote listing each room and what is included — no verbal estimates and no pressure.

  2. Protecting the room

Furniture is moved to the centre or out of the room, floors are covered with dust sheets and hard protection where needed, and sockets, switches, carpets and radiators are masked. Doors are sealed off so dust stays where the work is.

  3. Preparation

Nail holes and cracks are filled, old flaking paint scraped back, walls sanded flat, gaps between skirting, architrave and coving caulked, and bare or patched areas spot-primed. Anything glossy is keyed so the new paint grips.

  4. Ceilings, walls, then woodwork

Ceilings go first, then walls in two full coats, then skirting, architrave, doors and window boards cut in by brush. Working in that order keeps the crisp lines at the top of the skirting and around the coving.

  5. Snagging and tidy up

Kevin walks the room with you under daylight and lamplight, touches in anything either of you spots, refits sockets and handles, puts the furniture back and takes all waste and empty tins away with him.

Good to know

Timings, disruption and practicalities

  • A typical bedroom takes 1–2 days; a hallway, stairs and landing 3–5 days depending on height and access.
  • You can normally stay in the house throughout — Kevin works room by room so you always have somewhere to sit.
  • Low-odour, low-VOC paints as standard, so rooms are usable the same evening.
  • Paint can be supplied at trade cost, or you can buy your own if you prefer.
