Kevin restores tired skirting, staircases, panelled doors and original woodwork — stripping back where needed, repairing splits and cracks, then refinishing with traditional eggshell, gloss or specialist coatings. What's involved

So you know exactly what Kevin will be doing in your home, and in what order.

Assessing what can be saved
Kevin looks at how many layers of old paint are on the woodwork, whether the timber underneath is sound, and which mouldings are worth stripping back rather than filling. On kitchens he checks the door material, hinges and any previous spray finish.
Stripping and repairing
Doors and drawer fronts come off and are labelled, handles removed, and old coatings taken back where they have built up over detail. Splits, chips and worn edges are repaired with two-part filler and shaped back to the original profile.
Degreasing and keying
Kitchen and bathroom joinery is degreased thoroughly, then every surface is abraded and wiped clean. On tricky substrates such as melamine, previously sprayed doors or bare hardwood, Kevin uses the appropriate adhesion primer.
Building the finish
Primer, then two thin, laid-off coats of traditional eggshell, satin or gloss, each sanded lightly between coats. Thin coats brushed and rolled properly give a hard, hand-finished surface with no runs and no visible brush texture on the flat.
Refitting and aftercare
Doors are rehung and adjusted, handles refitted, and Kevin explains how long to leave the finish before heavy cleaning, plus how to touch it in years later — he keeps a note of your exact colours and products.

Timings, disruption and practicalities

A hand-painted kitchen usually takes 4–6 days depending on the number of doors; the kitchen stays usable throughout.
Allow 7–14 days of gentle use before scrubbing new woodwork, while the coating fully hardens.
Period mouldings, staircases and panelled doors are priced per element after a look in person.
Where original detail has been lost under old paint, Kevin will show you a test area before committing to stripping the lot.
